Domestic Abuse: There is no excuse
Domestic Abuse is physical, emotional, sexual or mental abuse of one person by another. It can happen with a partner or ex-partner.
Domestic Abuse is not your fault. Domestic Abuse is an Abuse of Power.
Domestic Abuse is very common: it can happen to anyone, regardless of age, social class, race, disability or lifestyle. Domestic Abuse is rarely a one-off event. Physical abuse often escalates in frequency and severity over time. The abuse may take many forms: hitting, punching, name calling, forcing sex, enforcing pregnancy or abortion, isolation, financial control, using contact with children to abuse you or them, blatant infidelity, humiliating, controlling.
Domestic Abuse is not caused by stress, unemployment, poverty, alcohol, mental illness or by the people who experience the abuse.
It is not possible to identify by age, ethnicity, appearance or any other means who is and is not experiencing or perpetrating domestic abuse.
